(GRAND RAPIDS, MI) – Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. (O-A-K), local professional construction firm, announces completion of the Nate Hurwitz Field for the West Michigan Miracle League, located in Plainfield Township, at 3300 10 Mile Rd.
The new baseball/softball field built for children with special needs was celebrated at an inaugural game on Saturday, September 21st. The field is named in honor of Nate Hurwitz, former WMML board member and supporter, who passed away unexpectedly in 2012.
Construction scope included site grading, installation of a rubberized turf surface, asphalt sub-base beneath the turf surface, bleachers, dugouts, fencing, electronic scoreboard, sound system, flag pole, landscaping, sidewalks and parking lot. As Construction Manager, O-A-K provided on-site supervision, total project budgeting, schedule management, logistics coordination, quality control and safety management. The project was completed on time and within budget.
The field is located within the West Michigan Sports Commission’s Art Van Sports Complex, a 12-field championship-caliber baseball/softball complex that will be the first of its kind in West Michigan. Phase 1 of the new complex is still under construction and on schedule, with fundraising underway to raise the final $485,000 of the $7.4 million budget. Donations can be made to Everyone Wins campaign (http://www.everyonewinshere.org/home). Progressive AE is providing architectural services for both projects.
