Owen-Ames-Kimball Company completes Venice Municipal Airport improvements

Owen-Ames-Kimball Company (O-A-K) announces the completion of three improvement projects at Venice Municipal Airport in Venice, Fla. O-A-K’s scope of work included a variety of reconstructive efforts to a number of taxiways and runways at the airport, along with other site and safety improvements. On March 9, O-A-K participated in a ceremonial “block crushing” for its latest project at Venice Municipal Airport to celebrate the completion of Runway 13-31 improvements.

O-A-K recently provided its services to Venice Municipal Airport to enhance Runway 13-31. In an effort to protect persons and property on the ground, the runway was shifted southeast to remove Runway Protection Zone (RPZ) from homes northwest of the airport, while maintaining t [Photo 3_1] he 5,000-foot-long runway for takeoff and landing. An Engineered Material Arresting System (EMAS) was also installed at the departure end of the runway, designed to protect aircraft, flight crew and passengers if an aircraft were to overrun the runway. Additional enhancements included taxiway rehabilitation and extension, installation of LED lighting along the runway and taxiway, landscaping improvements at Beach Road and Harbor Drive, and replacement of a perimeter fence adjacent to the Lake Venice Golf Course.

O-A-K has worked closely with Venice Municipal Airport over recent years to complete two additional six-phase projects at the airport. O-A-K’s first project encompassed Runway 4-22, Taxiway E and Runway Safety Area (RSA) and Runway Object Free Area (ROFA) improvements. The project featured the complete reconstruction of Runway 4-22 and Taxiway E, and portions of Taxiway D, along with the relocation of a wind tee and construction of a segmented circle. The work also included the regrading of effluent ponds, modifications to the adjacent Lake Venice Golf Course and installation of new security fencing and removal of existing fence and trees while maintaining airport security. The second project consisted of the reconstruction of Taxiway A and Taxiway C, which featured rehabilitation to taxiways, aprons, intersections and run-up pads, complete with final marking and electrical work. “These improvements are critical to enhancing the safety and efficiency of the airport while also improving the quality of life for residents around Venice Municipal Airport,” said Chris Rozansky, airport director at Venice Municipal Airport. “We are grateful for the collaborative partnership that has been fostered with O-A-K the past few years to develop a general aviation airport that is now well-positioned to serve the community for years to come.”
