This project involved the conversion of three existing spaces into clean rooms for Van Andel Research Institute’s new Cryo-Electron Microscopes. The former spaces were used as lab areas, storage space, and a loading dock area.
A significant portion of the construction cost was dedicated to furnishing and installing completely isolated and redundant HVAC equipment and controls that are required to maintain the tight temperature variation and humidity constraints necessary for the laboratory research and microscopes.
Cryo-EM is a revolutionary technology allowing us to see extremely detailed images that can provide insight into how our molecules look and interact. This technology is helping Van Andel Research Institute find better therapies for diseases including cancer, Parkinson’s, and many others.
